Being a parent is hard. I can argue it is probably harder for our generation than it used to be. Why? Parents nowadays have so much more information and opinions to juggle than before. There is this great amount of pressure to be perfect & raise these super organic and genius children. The truth is, we all do our best. We all do what we feel is best for our kids, and there are a few things all parents do that no one likes to talk about! Because…we are all human!
1.Turning The TV On When You Need A Break
Guilty! Although we know an excess amount of television is not what is healthiest, turning a movie on for them so you can both sit back and relax is nothing to be ashamed of! I will admit, it is one of the few ways I can get some work done. Being a work at home mom can get difficult when you have a one year old tugging at your shirt all day. Our current favorites are; Moana, Boss Baby, and Zootopia.
2.Skipping Their Bath
You know those nights where you are just ready to put them into bed but you haven’t bathed them? You sit there and contemplate whether to bathe them or just get them to bed already. Finally, you decide you will just bathe them in the morning because right now a glass of wine and catching up on This Is Us is the only thing you want to do. Feel no shame mama-bathing them too much and overusing soaps can actually cause their skin to become irritated. Take a break and catch up on that episode you missed out on!
3.You Give Your Kids Your Phone Or Tablet When Out
Some times it’s all that works. A fun Target run or errand run can go sour when your kids decide they are done with your shenanigans! Then it begins…THE MELTDOWN! So what do you do? Let them scream? Let them cry? Heck no because we aren’t done running errands! I find the library of movies on my phone and hand it over. Only then can we return back to the calm and relaxing ways that Target runs should be.
4.You Feed Your Baby Jarred Food
GASP! You gave your baby a jar of baby food? Was it organic? Organic shmorganic! We aim to give our kids the best always. But, you are no less of a parent for giving them a jar of food than the parent who home makes their baby’s food. Do what makes you stress-free! Happy mama=happy baby!
5.You Leave Your Kids In PJs All Day
Some days I get her dressed by the time we are dropping Zoey off at school. Other days I let her nap and we are rushing to pick up Zoey…and she is still in pajamas! Do they notice? No. Do they care? No. Do you? You shouldn’t! They are kids and when they are tiny their clothes can look like pjs haha!
6.YOU Stay In PJs All Day
You are so busy with your day then you turn and see your clock says 1:30pm! EEK! And you are still in PJs…yup been there too! I live in yoga pants for a reason! Comfort is key & motherhood is hard so make it comfy! No shame mama!
7.YOU Skip A Shower
Whether you have an older child, a toddler, or a newborn-finding time to shower while parenting is hard. I learned to make dry shampoo and deodorant my best friends! As long as they are fed who cares if you didn’t get a shower in. Those kids are happy and taken care of!
Being a parent is hard as it is. With all this parent shaming and these social media standards it can be even more stressful. Don’t worry mama, behind those closed doors only they know what they do. Worry about yourself. Worry about keeping yourself happy, whatever that means for you. Ultimately what matters is whether your family is happy and healthy, the rest of it are small details.
