This homemade chia jam is made with just 4 simple, wholesome ingredients to give it the perfect consistency and fresh flavor. Here are all of the ingredients you’ll need:

  • Strawberries – The star of the show! I suggest opting for organic strawberries; they’ll have more flavor!
  • Chia seeds – A super healthy seed used as the thickener! Chia seeds also add extra fiber and omega-3s to this jam.
  • Fresh lemon juice – To brighten the flavor!
  • Sweetener – If you’d like the jam to be a little sweeter, you can add honey, maple syrup or monk fruit to the jam recipe.

How to make strawberry chia jam

This recipe could not be easier!There’s not much to it other than heating and mashing strawberries and then stirring several simple ingredients together. Here’s a quick rundown of the process, but for full instructions, reference the recipe card at the bottom of the post.

  1. Heat and mash strawberries – Cook the strawberries over medium heat for about 10 minutes. Once the strawberries are a bit liquid-y, use a potato masher or spatula to mash them. You can make them as smooth or as chunky as you like.
  2. Stir in additional ingredients – Once the strawberries are mashed, stir in the chia seeds and lemon juice. Taste and add sweetener as desired.
  3. Let the jam cool and thicken – As the jam cools, it will thicken. Once completely cooled, transfer it to an airtight container and store it in the refrigerator.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups fresh strawberries, roughly chopped
  • 3 tablespoons chia seeds
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1-3 tablespoons honey, maple syrup or monk fruit (if needed)

Instructions

  • Place strawberries in a saucepan over a medium heat. Cook until the strawberries begin to break down and the mixture is bubbly. The strawberries will become loose and liquidy, about 10 minutes.

  • Mash the fruit with a potato masher or the back of a spatula. You can make this as smooth or chunky as you’d like. It all depends on how you like your jam.

  • Stir in the chia seeds and lemon juice. Taste the jam and then decide if you want to add sweetener. Start with one tablespoon, if desired and adjust from there.
